i teach economics at unlv three times per week. last monday, at the beginning of class, i cheerfully asked my students how their weekend had been. one young man said that his weekend had not been so good. he had his wisdom teeth removed. the young man then proceeded to ask me why i always seemed to be so cheerful.
his question reminded me of something i'd read somewhere before: every morning when you get up, you have a choice about how you want to approach life that day, i said. i choose to be cheerful. let me give you an example, i continued, addressing all sixty students in the class. in addition to teaching here at unlv, i also teach out at the community college in henderson, 17 miles down the freeway from where i live. one day a few weeks ago i drove those 17 miles to henderson. i exited the freeway and turned onto college drive. i only had to drive another quarter mile down the road to the college. but just then my car died. i tried to start it again, but the engine wouldn't turn over. so i put my flashers on, grabbed my books, and marched down the road to the college.
“as soon as i got there i called aaa and arranged for a tow truck to meet me at my car after class. the secretary in the provost's office asked me what has happened. 'this is my lucky day,' i replied, smiling. 'your car breaks down and today is your lucky day?' she was puzzled. 'what do you mean?' 啊？” 'i live 17 miles from here.' i replied. 'my car could have broken down anywhere along the freeway. it didn't. instead, it broke down in the perfect place: off the freeway, within walking distance of here. i'm still able to teach my class, and i've been able to arrange for the tow truck to meet me after class. if my car was meant to break down today, it couldn't have been arranged in a more convenient fashion.' the secretary's eyes opened wide, and then she smiled. i smiled back and headed for class. so ended my story.
i scanned the sixty faces in my economics class at unlv. despite the early hour, no one seemed to be asleep. somehow, my story had touched them. or maybe it wasn't the story at all. in fact, it had all started with a student's observation that i was cheerful.
deepak chopra has quoted an indian wise man as saying, who you are speaks louder to me than anything you can say. i suppose it must be so.
The first day of my high school life The first day of high school life, I have some thoughts and feelings. The passage of time can always give people some special things.
In the new environment, I feel a bit excited. Be able to recognize the new students and teachers is my greatest gains. In the next three years, we will learn、work and progress together to make our dreams come true. I will have new friends, and share the joy and sadness with them. The process of learning is also a growing process.
Similarly, I will also face many difficulties. I might have difficulties in learning and getting along with classmates , bearing some pressure in life. However, I will get stronger and get through every step of high school three years

The Attraction of Dangerous Activities
In the past, people often faced many dangers in their daily lives. They had to cope with not only natural disasters and frequent outbreaks of disease, but also dangerous animals and warfare. The need to hunt and to protect their territory from other people required them to be skilled in the use of weapons. In addition, any travel also involved great risk as there were few roads and bridges. Nowadays, people do not have to live with such dangers on a daily basis, and yet many people choose to involve themselves in risky activities such as dangerous sports. I believe the following reasons can explain the attraction of such activities.
One reason people are attracted to risky activities is that hey crave excitement. The thrill of mountain climbing or bungee jumping can satisfy their need to break out of their routine. Without the excitement of such sports, they may feel bored with their lives. Another reason people like such activities is that these activities often require a certain amount of skill. Learning to drive a racecar or hang-glide may satisfy the desire to excel and give the participant a feeling of accomplishment and personal confidence in his abilities. A final reason that people may choose to engage in risky activities is that they want to stand out from the crowd. By developing a skill that others don’t have, they can feel unique.
For all of these reasons, I believe that risky activities will continue to be popular with some people. In fact, it seems that as soon as one activity becomes safer or commonplace, thrill seekers come up with a new way to challenge their skills and courage.
Nowadays, credit card consumption has been a commonphenomenon in our lives. However, different people hold different views in itand heated debates are right on their way.
Some are in favor of the credit card consumption. Theypoint out the fact that credit card provides a convenient and safe way for ourconsumptions. They consider that using credit card to pay is more convenientand clean than pay by cash, which is as easy to lose and unclean. In addition, they argue that credit card can help a lot when we are meeting seriousfinancial trouble. For example, when we get involved in trouble and need lotsof money to solve it, the overdraw function of credit card would be a goodhelper.
However, there are many people standing on the otherground. They figure out that credit card consumption has brought some seriousproblems in many aspects. Many people spend their money recklessly by usingcredit card. And what’s worse, those who can not control the desire to consumeand never make a plan to spend their money will overdraw the money immoderatelyand that will cause more and more family involve in financial crisis.
In my opinion, the both sides have some importantpoints. Therefore, as rational consumers, we should use credit card properly. On the one hand, we can utilize its advantages for the convenience of ourpayment. On the other hand, we should keep a rational mind when using it, incase we will suffer from it.
My new deskmate is a boy of sixteen. His name is Zhang Gao. He is 1.8 meters tall. His strongly-built body and sun-tanned skin make him look like a sportsman. He has two big dark eyes under a pair of thick eyebows. It seems that they are always smiling at you. Compared with my yellow hair, his hair is black and thick. He speaks a little bit fast but very clearly. However, he likes to gesture from time to time while he＇s talking. He has a dream of becoming a famous actor one day. I believe his dream will come true because of his handsome face and well-developed figure.

People plant a great number of young trees in the mountains. When the trees grow big and tall enough, they are cut down by workers and carried out of the mountains to the paper mill where fine paper is made from wood.
Then it is taken to every corner of the country and used for different purposes.
Some people use paper to copy writing, others use it to write something such as letters, reports and articles.
When paper turns out to be of no use,the waste paper is collected and retreated in the recycling factory before being put into use again.
